What is included in the assessment?
The assessment is carried out by a dedicated analyst from the SBTi Services Validation Team and includes:
- Company categorization: The service determines which category – A or B – a company falls into and sets out exactly what that means for its V2.0 validation obligations.
- Target architecture translation: The service maps a company’s existing validated targets onto the scope-specific target architecture, identifying for each whether the current approach satisfies the V2.0 criteria, requires adjustment, or requires a new target, and sets out the available options in each case.
- Tailored transition timelines: A tailored transition timeline showing where a company sits within the new cyclical validation framework based on the date of their most recent validation and/or target year, including key milestone dates and permissible submission pathways under V1.3.1 and V2.0.
- Data readiness: The service assesses whether a company’s current inventory and assurance arrangements meet the new requirements across scopes 1, 2, and 3. It will identify where data, methodology, or assurance needs to be strengthened to reach validation readiness.
